Retired Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh officially handed over the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism to the newly appointed Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva. During the meeting, the two discussed the priorities in the work of the ministry, the results achieved so far and the projects that are yet to be developed, the ministry announced.
Among the main highlights were the efforts for sustainable development of the sector, improving the business environment and establishing Bulgaria as a competitive and recognizable tourist destination.
“It was an exceptional privilege to work with the team of the Ministry of Tourism and with the representatives of the local authorities and the industry. I am confident that the sector remains in the hands of a proven professional with extensive experience, who is well aware of the challenges and potential of Bulgarian tourism,” said Miroslav Borshosh.
He emphasized that what was achieved in 2025 is the result of the joint efforts of the administration, municipalities, business and tourism organizations and associations.
For her part, Irena Georgieva expressed her readiness to continue the active dialogue and work with the municipalities and the tourism industry, and to rely on the expertise of the team at the ministry.
“I take on this responsibility with a clear awareness of the importance of tourism for the country's economy. We will work to build on what has been achieved and to establish Bulgaria as a year-round tourist destination,” she said.
Georgieva expressed her extremely high and positive assessment of the work of the ministry under the leadership of Miroslav Borshosh, emphasizing the clear progress in the development of the sector, the achieved stability, the active dialogue with the industry and municipalities, and the clear strategic vision, which has laid sustainable foundations for the long-term growth and stronger international positioning of Bulgaria as a tourist destination.
During the conversation between the two, it was emphasized that continuity in policies and good coordination with all stakeholders are key to the stable and sustainable development of Bulgarian tourism.
Irena Georgieva was proposed as the acting Minister of Tourism in the Gyurov cabinet. She graduated in Sociology from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" with a gold medal for excellent results and active public activity, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Almost her entire professional career has been related to tourism. She has nearly 25 years of management experience in this field as a head of travel agencies. She has also defended a number of certificates with such a profile.
