The outgoing Minister of Tourism, Miroslav Borshosh, is the first European minister to be received on an official visit by the new Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), Ms. Sheikha Al-Nowais, at the organization’s headquarters in Madrid.

During the meeting, the first specially developed investment guide for Bulgaria, “Tourism Doing Business - Investing in Bulgaria”, was also presented - a key tool for attracting sustainable international investments in the Bulgarian tourism sector, developed by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with UN Tourism. The document outlines the strategic priorities and opportunities for tourism development and specific guidelines for investors in various areas.

The guide presents Bulgaria as a stable and competitive investment destination with favorable tax conditions, a strategic geographical location and clear prospects related to the introduction of the euro in 2026.

"Our country is among the few European countries with such an investment guide, which presents not only the potential of our country, but also the specific conditions, opportunities and priorities for the development of the sector," emphasized Miroslav Borshosh.

He added that the fact that Bulgaria is the first European country accepted by the new Secretary General of the organization is a strong sign of trust in our country and its active role in the global tourism dialogue.

The investment guide Tourism Doing Business - Investing in Bulgaria has already been published on the official website of UN Tourism and is available to the international investment community.

Retired Minister Miroslav Borshosh also made an official proposal for Bulgaria to host a UN Tourism World Forum on Cultural Tourism in 2026, following the model of the successfully held Global Wine Tourism Conference in Plovdiv last year. The idea was accepted with interest by the organization’s leadership and is seen as an opportunity for our country to once again establish itself as a leading center for international expert dialogue in the field of sustainable and thematic tourism.

“Bulgaria has an exceptionally rich cultural heritage and proven experience in hosting international forums. Following the success of the Wine Tourism Conference in Plovdiv, our proposal to host the Global Cultural Tourism Conference will contribute to positioning the region as a leading center for the development of this strategic segment,” said Miroslav Borshosh.
